‘Tis the season to be jolly and invite your mates round for a good old festive knees up. And for that, you’re going to need supplies. We’re pretty sure you can take care of the booze and much of the food yourselves, but we thought you might like to put an American spin on things so we’ve pulled out some crackers for you to serve up at your Christmas party – or parties!
Christmas Party Snacks
No party is complete without some sacks laid on to keep your guests from getting hungry (and too drunk too quickly!). A few bowls of this stuff dotted around the house will have them munching away throughout the evening.
Chex Mix Traditional & Chex Mix Cheddar
Lightly salted or cheddar cheese flavoured baked potato snacks, Chex Mix comes in a variety of interesting and fun shapes which make ideal bowl fillers.
We suggest picking up several bags of each and putting out some mixed bowls for your guests to enjoy. They’re WAY better than those pre-packed nibbles you get in the supermarkets – and on balance cheaper and healthier too, as they contain 60% less fat then most similar snacks you can buy.
These are an American Soda favourite – we think they’ll become one of yours too.
From salty and cheesy to sweet and delicious, let us tempt you with Cracker Jack, a mix of popcorn and peanuts in a tasty caramel coating.
Again, a few bags of this emptied into some bowls for your guests to enjoy will go down brilliantly. Plus, they look great glistening under your Christmas lights too.
Double whammy, double winner.
Stax Potato Chips
What’s a party without chips? Stax chips come in a variety of flavours, from salted through cheeseburger, buffalo wings and pizza. It’s quite a range.
Instead of tipping them into bowls though, we like the tubes they come in – far more interesting than Pringles, for example – so recommend just leaving them in strategic places with plenty of dips like salsa, sour cream and guacamole to hand too.
Trust us, people will go nuts for them – so make sure you have enough.
Now to go fully sweet on you, there’s a variety of American sweets and chocolate available that make great candy bowls for your Christmas party. We recommend picking up several of these and just mixing them up in a big serving bowl, giving it centre stage at your party.
- Hershey’s Kisses
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
- Jelly Belly Jelly Beans
- Jolly Rancher Hard Candy
- Laffy Taffy
One thing is for sure – get them all, you’ll be guaranteed to have something for every guest’s sweet tooth.
Top Tip: You can take Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Hershey’s Kisses and make cute little Christmas trees as edible decór – take a look at the pic above to see how!
Christmas Party Drinks
Let’s be honest here, it’s the booze that gets a party going in many cases. You’ll have things like beer and wine sorted for yourself. But wouldn’t you like to make it a little more interesting than your standard party – and make it Christmassy too?
We’ll start with an easy one. A lot of people like a vodka and cola, a brandy and cola, a rum and cola. They’ve never had it with Pepsi Throwback though – and they will love it. This particular cola has a flavour all of it’s own and we highly recommend picking up a few packs for your party.
You could even take it to another level and throw a hint of vanilla into the mix by stocking up on Coca-Cola Vanilla. AWESOME flavours will ensue.
Another great mixer is root beer. It mixes with almost anything. Sambuca to create a Bucabeer, Bailey’s to create a Corbob and Malibu to create a Mug Shot are just a few ideas. There are loads of ideas right here.
Finally, you can’t beat eggnog. It’s a little unusual to us over here, but hey, try something new. You will not regret it.
Grab yourself a big punchbowl, a couple of cartons of Bordens Eggnog and your choice of alcohol – brandy, rum or bourbon. A few shots of the booze, topped off with warmed eggnog and sprinkled with some ground cinnamon will look stunning alongside your candy bowl.
Just provide a ladle and some glasses and you’re all set for a real party. A real American style, fun and enjoyable party.
We hope you take on some or all of these ideas and your Christmas party – or parties – go with a bang!
