It’s only days until Halloween so we imagine you’ll be prepping your party food, your pumpkins and your playlists, as well as tailoring your Halloween costume. So, we wondered, what are the most popular costumes this year?
Fortunately, Google have been kind enough to create Google Trends Frightgeist, a comprehensive list of the most searched for Halloween costume ideas in America. Thanks, Google!
The top five searches nationally in the States are:
- Harley Quinn
- Star Wars
It might come as a surprise to see that name at Number One. In fact, you might not even know who it is! Harley Quinn is the female lead in the new Suicide Squad movie. Take a look at this pic…you’ll see why it’s popular (she’s the one in the middle in hotpants)!
With Star Wars: The Force Awakens set to premiere on December 18th, it’s no surprise to see that as the second most popular search. There’s plenty to go at in terms of Halloween costumes. Chewbacca is an obvious choice, plenty of people go for the traditional Stormtrooper, Darth Vader and new bad guy Kylo Ren will be popular…but who would you choose? Tell us in the comments below, on Facebook or Twitter.
Superheroes are an ever popular choice for Halloween costumes with Superman generally coming out on top. This year, however, it seems Batman is going to be the most common superhero walking the streets of Some Town, USA this year, as evidenced by that specific search at number five in the list.
Inspired, no doubt, by the hotly anticipated movie Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice…
Which just leaves pirates, sitting very comfortably at number 4 in the top searches for Halloween costumes in the US this year. Where, we think, it’s been sitting comfortably for a very long time, before Pirates of the Caribbean and Jonny Depp’s wonderful performance as Captain Jack Sparrow even, who many people will no doubt opt for.
There’s no shortage of pirate costumes available from the usual fancy dress shops either. From sexy pirate for the ladies to Blackbeard for the men, they all seem pretty similar. But then there’s this wonderful creation…
Ah, the undead pirate, of course. This might just be a model, but it wouldn’t be hard to transfer that to yourself, would it!
Speaking of the undead, with the popularity of The Walking Dead and Z Nation at the moment, not to mention a ton of other zombie related things, we’re very surprised zombie costume is not in the top five. In fact, looking at the local searches in the States, we couldn’t find a single reference to zombie. What’s up with that, America?
By far the weirdest ones we found though…and remember these are searches related to Halloween costumes…were “flamingo” and “peacock”. O.M.G.
