Today is delivery day here at American Soda and I thought I’d give you a little insight into just how much we get in on your behalf. Now, I know that you can sometimes be disappointed when you visit our site looking to buy your favourite American drinks, American sweets or American food and find that it’s out of stock – believe me, we wish we were never out of stock!

But you’re a demanding lot – which we love! – and sometimes items just fly off the virtual shelves. This is especially true of our top sellers. The likes of Cheetos and Lucky Charms do not last long here!

That doesn’t mean we’re not working on keeping things available as much as possible. We now get a delivery every three weeks. We’re not talking a couple of boxes of this and that either. Kool Aid, in all its variety of flavours, has long been a favourite of our Ameircan Soda customers. Now, thanks to San Diego’s “Chicken” Charlie Boghosian, it has a new twist. You can fry it!

Sounds disgusting, but don’t dismiss it yet. Not only has it become an internet hit, trending on Twitter for two days straight, but visitors to “Chicken” Charlie’s food stall at the San Diego County Fair loved it. It’s become such a hit that the video below has seen over 100,000 views on YouTube in a matter of days. Check it out.

Unfortunately for you, while Kool Aid and flour are two of the ingredients used, the rest Mr Boghosian is keeping to himself, at least for now. If he ever reveals his secret recipe, we’ll let you know so you can try it for yourselves!

Each member of the Americansoda team would like to think they are the best. To silence the internal trash talkers and to end the squabbling between us we have decided it is only you that can help us……….

Can YOU suggest a way for us to compete with each other? To end the debate once and for all??!! Here are the rules……Firstly and perhaps most importantly we must remain fully clothed (it is for the best, believe me!!) Secondly, all ideas must centre on American soda products and finally it must be done indoors. If these criteria are met then BRING IT ON!!

An example would be, who can eat the most Hershey Kisses in 120 seconds?!!

Further details to follow as to when events will take place and who will be competing!!

Leave your challenges below – and don’t worry if they don’t show up right away, we’ll approve them as soon as we can!

Retro Twinkies ad featuring Twinkie the Kid! [VIDEO]

Hostess Twinkies 10 PackIt’s been a while since we posted up a retro TV ad from the States (the others are here, here and here), but this one caught our eye as it’s the first Twinkie ad to feature “Twinkie the Kid”, a cowboy / sheriff type character voiced by Allen Swift, who some Americans might know voiced a couple of characters on the Underdog cartoon series.

We’re not quite sure why Twinkie the Kid is happy to see a couple of kids eating his own kind right in front of him, but as he ‘says’, there’s “big delight in every bite” – and there’s no doubting that. Enjoy!

You can get your hands on 10 delicious Hostess Twinkies for just £9.97 and we promise you, you won’t regret it!

American Candy Gift Baskets – Yes, We Do Them!

We focus very strongly on customer service here at American Soda and when we get special requests from our valued customers we try our hardest to meet them.

That includes providing gift baskets for birthdays, anniversaries, anything really! We advertise these in our store in Ashton but visitors to our lovely website are often unaware we can do this (which we plan to address!).

All you have to do is give us a call on the hotline (0161 359 3655), tell us what you want in the basket, what message you’d like on the card, where you want it delivered and even what colour you want the ribbon to be!

To give you an example, here’s a gift basket story from one of our happy customers, Kim Goodwin:

American Soda Gift BasketsHmm, what do you buy for that certain couple who has everything? This was a question I found asking myself when it was my best friend’s wedding anniversary this week. I went from flowers (too boring), to money (too formal), teddies (not special enough) and an ornament (too predictable). I wanted something special, useful, something that had that WOW factor I keep hearing about!

Then it finally dawned on me! What do my dear friends love more than anything? AMERICAN FOOD. What amazing shop did they introduce me to on my previous visit?? AMERICAN SODA!! What did I see American Soda advertise in the store? Gift baskets!!! It was safe to say a light bulb switched on in my head!!!

It was the perfect gift! Only one problem, American Soda is in Lancashire I was in West Yorkshire. Panic began to set in! Husband said no worries they have a website order it from there Off I popped to website, and what a fantastic looking website it is! Only thing was no mention of the baskets! [Again, we'll be addressing this! Dave.]

I panicked again! Husband’s calm voice reassured me to calm down, there is a telephone number just call them. So I dialled the number held my breath and was warmly welcomed to American Soda by Sandra. I could breathe again. I explained my predicament to her and she was more than willing to help, she asked what kind of basket I wanted; she was met with a stone cold silence! I hadn’t thought that far ahead!

What kind of basket did I want?!? This was no problem for Sandra she began discussing ideas straight away. She asked me how much did I want to spend to start with (any amount from £14.99 is acceptable to them).

I then came up with the idea of completely personalizing my basket, this time Sandra went quiet…what a lovely idea was her response, have a look on our website, pick which items you want, write me a shopping list and I will go pick them and arrange them for you. This agreed, I said I would call her back the next day with my list.

Using their website is really easing moving from different sections from drinks, to American sweets, groceries and non food. Plenty to pick from, with all the prices and availability information simple to understand. I picked a wide variety of things, Mountain Dew, Cheetos, Oreo’s, Candy Corn and even some Hershey’s chocolate milk.

I called back the next day with my list, Sandra went down to the shop to double check all the items I requested were in stock before I paid for anything, and wanted to know what colour ribbon I wanted and did I want a personalised message attached? Fantastic service, it really made it more exciting for me to be ordering it because Sandra was getting so involved. I paid over the phone using my debit card it was simple. I did have to pay a delivery charge of £4.95, however Sandra explained that she had given me a discount on the items I had chosen because of the volume so not to worry, and it hadn’t affected the price I wanted to pay by much.

My parting words with Sandra were the basket was going to be delivered Friday. Well, you can imagine my surprise when I got a phone call on the Wednesday from my friends thanking me for the gift basket…a whole two days earlier than expected! Again, amazing service from American Soda!

I would certainly recommend this idea to anyone. It is so simple and quick to do, yet so fun and effective. American Soda cater for all budgets, just call them and explain how much you want to spend, or take it to my extreme and hand pick everything yourself using the website as reference.

If I could give you all one tip, it would be plan ahead, look at what items you might want to be included in your basket and stick to your budget. Try not get too carried out with all the goodies!! But certainly give it a try, it’s a wonderful present idea and was so excellently done by American Soda I wouldn’t hesitate it recommending it to all my friends. And fingers crossed maybe I will get a basket sent to me one day! Or I may even just order one for myself!!!!!

We were delighted to be able to help Kim out and we’d be equally as delighted to help YOU out too. Just pick up the phone and tell us what you’re after. :)

Cheers!
