6 steps away from anyone else on the earth !

When I bumped into Paul Jewell (former Bradford & Wigan football manager) at Manchester Airport last week it got me thinking about the theory that I have often heard that you are only ever 6 steps away from anyone else on the earth.

Six degrees of separation (also referred to as the “Human Web”) refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth. It was popularized by a play written by John Guare. (source Wikipedia)

I mentioned that I am only 4 steps away from the pop group Take That and here is why

My wife’s uncles business partner is the brother of Jason Orange (a member of Take That) so you can see there a three people between me and Take That.

Now here is the little challenge I would like to throw out there.

How close can you get me to someone really famous or important through whom you know. For example if you knew the Queen I would only be 2 steps away from her.

Now I know some of you don’t know me personally or have even seen me but please play along.

Just reply to this post and we will see who can get me close to someone famous or important.

I will give out some prizes on Friday for the best ones; of course the winners will be announced here on the Blog.

My mum’s pretty well known within the NHS, and is one of those important big wigs trying to change the way the trust works (she’s one of the few who want to make POSITIVE changes) – nonetheless, she often travels to London on a first class train ride, and has met quite a few famous people, such as Kevin keegan. She had lunch next to one of the senior members of staff at Leeds United, and I believe she’s met Tony Blair on one occasion.

Also, a while back, I met the entire England squad at a local hotel and got to have a chat with none other than David Beckham, who called me his “mate” when introducing me to his teammates.

I was only young back then so that was huge for me, obviously now it’s not as if I’m best buddies with him, but I figure it still counts.

I don’t think any of these connections count as “knowing” people, but my mum will more than likely meet up with those people listed above, again, so it should count for something! :)

I know British thrash metal band Evile. They’re pretty famous in the heavy metal world. They’ve toured with some more famous bands, including Exodus, Machine Head and Megadeth. Also they recorded their first album with Flemming Rasmussen, who recorded Metallica’s second, third and fourth albums. As far as I know they still know him and chat to him from time to time, and as far as I know he still knows Metallica fairly well. So for you, that’s Evile in 2, Flemming, Exodus, Machine Head and Megadeth in 3 and Metallica in 4.
