When I bumped into Paul Jewell (former Bradford & Wigan football manager) at Manchester Airport last week it got me thinking about the theory that I have often heard that you are only ever 6 steps away from anyone else on the earth.

Six degrees of separation (also referred to as the “Human Web”) refers to the idea that, if a person is one step away from each person they know and two steps away from each person who is known by one of the people they know, then everyone is at most six steps away from any other person on Earth. It was popularized by a play written by John Guare. (source Wikipedia)

I mentioned that I am only 4 steps away from the pop group Take That and here is why

My wife’s uncles business partner is the brother of Jason Orange (a member of Take That) so you can see there a three people between me and Take That.

Now here is the little challenge I would like to throw out there.

How close can you get me to someone really famous or important through whom you know. For example if you knew the Queen I would only be 2 steps away from her.

Now I know some of you don’t know me personally or have even seen me but please play along.

Just reply to this post and we will see who can get me close to someone famous or important.

I will give out some prizes on Friday for the best ones; of course the winners will be announced here on the Blog.

My husband once did his lunch time workout on a treadmill next to Gordon Brown – and Gordon smiled at him ! this was in the days when he was chancellor and hadn’t been taught to smile yet !!!!!

Hi Dave… A friend I went to university with is now Reubens Barrichello’s engineer at Williams F1. So you’re 3 steps/2 people from him.

I once met the Stig/James May/Richard Hammond and Jeremy Clarkson at Top Gear’s 24 hour race. 2 steps…

Also, when I was in primary school on a trip to Blackpool I got into a football argument with TV’s own Andi Peters. 2 steps again!

    What’s my prize?? :-)

One of my (slightly stranger) hobbies is professional wrestling, as such I can go between me & Hulk Hogan in about 4 steps (I work in a North West England based BWP Wrestling Federation with a chap called Andy Baker > Who room-mate in Florida was Elijah Burke > who currently works in American Wrestling’s TNA with Hulk Hogan).

One six degrees I can do is this:-

Me > worked in BWP with Steve Saxon > Who toured island with David “Gangrel” Heath > Who worked in WWF/E with The Rock > Who starred in “Get Smart” with Steve Carell > Who was in The Office as was Ricky Gervais.

A Non Wrestling One is This

Me > My Dad > Delivers Milk to Neville Southall > who played for Wales with Ryan Giggs

    That’s about it really!

When me and my mate went to WWE we accidently walked into backstage (terribe security, there wasn’t any) when we looked for the quick exit to the car park. There we met 2 of WWE’s biggest wrestlers Shawn Michaels and Chris Jericho.

Also Peter Andre came to Tesco near me to sign his new CD a few weeks ago and Me and my other mate got his number (well, she did, I was with her) and he answered to her and spoke.

So thats 3 steps from WWE wrestlers and 2 steps to Peter Andre or 3 for Katie Price!!

I work with a person called Sadie Turner who is Kelly brooks best friend (i designed her website) who of course went out with Billy Zane who starred in ‘Back to the Future’ with Michael J Fox who knows loads of Hollywood stars.

So through me you are only 4 steps away from Everyone in Hollywood.

I also work with Tom Hunter one of the Richest Men in Scotland who is Friends with Bill Clinton so through me your only 2 steps away the 42nd President, and of course a further one step away from Monica Lewinsky /

My wife’s uncle’s fathers brother, was Dixie Dean.

My nephews soon to be new wife is Tina Malone (plays Mimi in Shameless)

My Mums sister is married to country and western singer Charlie Landsborough (big in the states and Australia, has a few albums out here too).

My friends grandad played bass with jimmy Paige (led zepp)

How could I forget this one?!

My Gran was an actress in films with Helen Mirren, Antony Hopkins, Hugh Grant and Roger Moore to name but a few.

She was in the last ever Peter Sellars film playing Queen Mary (Grace Coyle) along side Helen Mirran.

Her husband (my grandfather) wrote to the Queen of England and mentioned how she played Queen Mary in the film and she got a reply! So that is 2 steps away from the Queen!

A Racing pigeon friend of my granddads named Ray Cook was the gardener for Scary Spice Mel B when she lived in Little Marlow, Buckinghamshire, so thats a link to her and the Spice Girls. Despite being a famous pop star Ray always said that he fancied her mum more than Mel B herself! A slightly more tedious link from that would go to Nelson Mandela as the Spice Girls performed for him!

Another link is that my mate Jake serves ex-Arsenal and England goalkeeper on the meat counter in Waitrose, Marlow every week.

Another racing pigeon friend of my granddad has a sister who is married to Jeff Wayne, who famously wrote the musical version of H.G. Well’s ‘War of the Worlds’.

My father lived in a cottage in the village of Jordans, Buckinghamshire a couple of years ago and his nearest neighbours were the Osbournes. It was here that Ozzy famously had his quad bike accident a few years back.

And finally, my mate Jonesy claims that Ray Dorset, better known as 70′s pop star ‘Mungo Jerry’, bought a camper-van off his Uncle Martin. So random a claim that I am still undecided as to whether to believe it or not.

A few years ago Nelson Mandela came to Essex University to receive an honorary degree and had to use our building to get from the lower floor to the podium level. I managed to shake hands with him as he came out of the lift ;-)
